P.D.D. Pendleton's Jewelry and Watch Repair

The old Rogan building that we have been focused on for a couple of weeks is remembered primarily for F.W. Rogan's furniture store, but it also had other tenants offering other services to Montevallo citizens. For a time In the 1920's, Rogan's housed P.D.D. Pendleton's Jewelry and watch repair business. Mr. Pendleton was the father of Bill and Dudley Pendleton, both of whom were active in the Montevallo Volunteer Fire Dept. He was also the father-in-law of popular MHS teacher Emily Vest Pendleton.

In the 1950's, Dr. Milton L. Orr, Jr. rented space in the front of the second floor for his dental practice. Dental patients would enter through a narrow doorway located at the far left front of the building, behind which was a staircase that led up to the office on the second floor. Dr. Orr's father, Dr. M.L. Orr, Sr., was the head of the Education Dept. at Alabama College. Dr. Orr, Jr. was elected to the Montevallo City Council and served two terms as mayor from 1966-1972. The city park, Orr Park, was named in honor of Dr. M.L. Orr, Jr.
