Farrington Bridge

It could be said that Main Street either begins or ends with the Farrington Bridge. The bridge over Shoal Creek just below the Montevallo City Hall was named for U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Robert L. Farrington of Montevallo who died in service in a plane crash in Croatia in 1996. The photograph of the bridge was shot in 2017.

The painting of the bridge as it looked 70 years ago, by artist Richard Brough, appeared in the February 1953 issue of the Ford Times along with other paintings of various locations around Montevallo. They were part of a story entitled, “My Favorite Town” written by Alabama College instructor Virginia Hamilton and featured during Montevallo's Bicentennial Celebration year.

Thank you Clay Nordan, Vice President of the Montevallo Historical Society, for contributing these images and information!
